  1. My research suggests that Elkana Cobb's blanket factory was on the Paint Branch at the same location as the powder mill operated by Daniel Bussard. The location is now the Powder Mill Community Park on Powder Mill Road (Rt. 212).
I base this on a deed from 1817 where Bussard purchases land "whereon the Blanket Manufactory is now erected" on the east side of Paint Branch.
Cobb himself was a Vermont native who moved to Prince George's County in 1810 and received a patent for his felting process to make wool blankets in 1812. His hopes to profit from government contracts from the demands of the military during the War of 1812 were crushed by the signing of the peace treaty in December 1814. By 1817 he was bankrupt and he died shortly afterwards.
